Data & methodology

How the numbers are built

SportsBI compiles published sports-business information for six Indian leagues and labels every figure by how it was produced. It is periodically updated from public sources and is not a live data feed.

Types of figures

  • Reported - taken directly from a cited report, filing or league release.
  • Estimated - club or season values derived from reported league totals using documented weights (see calculation methods).
  • Illustrative - what-if simulator outputs, forecasts and CoachBI scenarios. These show direction only and are not predictions.

Coverage and last update

  • Leagues: IPL, ISL, PKL, HIL, UTT and PVL, seasons 2022-23 to 2025-26.
  • 32 cited sources; the most recent were published in 2026.
  • Exact refresh dates per figure are not yet tracked; this section will be expanded as they are.

Metric definitions

League spend
Total league-attributable commercial spend (media, sponsorship, matchday, other) for the selected season, in ₹ crore.
Sponsorship share
Sponsorship revenue as a percentage of total league commercial spend.
Average attendance
Average reported spectators per match for the league or club in the season.
Share of industry
League spend divided by total Indian sports industry spend for 2025 (₹18,864 Cr, WPP Media).
Club attributable value
A club's estimated share of league spend, using weights from brand value, following and attendance.
Benchmark scores
Normalised 0-100 scores on broadcast, attendance, social, valuation and related axes for side-by-side comparison.

Calculation methods

  • Season series scale the reported league total by published growth rates for earlier and later seasons.
  • Club values apportion league totals by a composite weight of club brand value, social following and attendance, so totals across clubs reconcile to the league.
  • Primary revenue categories for each league sum to 100% of league spend.
  • Forecast panels show a confidence range and confidence score; they are modelled, not reported.

Limitations

  • Private club financials are rarely published; most club-level numbers are estimates.
  • Sources differ in method and period; figures are aligned as closely as possible but are not audited.
  • Sponsorship ROI and exposure value are modelled and should not be read as audited outcomes.
